What is a CRB check?
A "Criminal Records Bureau" check is a search of records on a person held by the police and local authorities. It utilises records held by the police, together with those held by the Department of Health (DH) and the Department for Education and Skills (DfES). This disclosure enables organisations to make more thorough recruitment checks and fully assess the suitability of a person for working or volunteering in a certain role. This is now an essential process for most voluntary oragnisations, particularly for filling positions that involve regular contact with children and vulnerable adults
Why do I need a CRB check? I'm not a criminal!
Don't panic! This is just a formality for most people and is purely a precautionary measure to ensure people are safe on there activities. The search is for RELEVANT records, so, for instance, there is also no need to worry if you want to work with children but have a speeding ticket!
