Martha & Mary’s is the ‘Community Place’ for everyone in Heaton.
It was originally set up by a group of people at St. Gabriel’s church.
The project is a friendly drop in centre where people can drop in for a cup of tea or coffee and light snacks. There are also books, cards and fair trade goods on sale.
Martha & Mary’s is based at 212 Chillingham Road in Heaton – right next to the No.1 bus stop
This opportunity provides a varied role for volunteers. Tasks can include; making teas/coffee etc, preparing and toasting teacakes etc, serving to customers, using a till, selling trade craft goods and books etc. Volunteers would also need to help with basic cleaning jobs.
Volunteer Role:
• General Helper – volunteers will be required for tea making/hot & cold drinks and to make snacks for customers (ie toasties/teacakes etc). Also washing-up and basic food hygiene. Volunteers are required to be friendly and helpful to customers.
Martha and Mary’s is open 10am-2pm Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri (drop-ins – 2 - 2 hour shifts). Weds 10am-1pm (1 shift) & every Saturday 10.30am – 1.30pm (1 shift)
volunteers will gain skills in people skills, dealing with people/customers. All new volunteers are trained and inducted by experienced volunteer.
