Christian Aid, North East unit is based on the West Road, in the west end of Newcastle
Christian Aid exists to address the root causes of poverty wherever the need is greatest, irrespective of creed, colour or caste; to support local partner organisations working in more than fifty countries, in their work eradicating poverty and challenging the systems which keep poor people poor.
In the North East we resource local groups concerned about poverty to give, act and pray. We provide a local focus for campaigning on global issues; and coordinating local fundraising for development projects and emergency relief overseas.
Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
Office Volunteer: Variety of activities available including telephoning supporters, general admin support, research, media work, including working with the press etc. This is a flexible role regarding time and duties – we can offer occasional tasks or regular hours. If you have skills which you want to use or want to develop we will help.
Campaigner: To organise campaign actions relating to Christian Aid’s current campaigns (at present Trade justice and climate change). To promote the campaigning actions organised centrally by Christian Aid; to support local youth campaigns team; to raise the profile of Christian Aid’s campaigning in the region and to participate, on behalf of Christian Aid, in local and regional campaigning networks.
Youth Worker: To make contact with and run sessions for youth groups; based on Christian Aid resources; to promote Christian Aid resources to youth leaders; to encourage young people to act and change the world! This is a very flexible opportunity and requires a degree of independence and self motivation. We also require a willingness to travel to different groups, though as you will be expected to contact groups you can decide where you are willing to travel to.
Volunteers will gain experience of working with an international development agency; opportunity to develop new skills in the areas above; chance to participate in training opportunities; being fully resourced and supported by local staff and the opportunity to gain valuable work experience within the charitable sector.
