Where: The Local Office is based at 391 West Road in the west end of Newcastle on the 39 and 40 Bus Route.
What: Christian Aid exists to address the root causes of poverty wherever the need is greatest, irrespective of race or religion. Supporting local partner organisations working in more than 50 countries, working to eradicate poverty and challenge the systems which keep people poor.
In the North east we resource local groups concerned about poverty to give, act and pray; providing a local focus for campaigning on global issues; and coordinating local fundraising events for development projects overseas.
Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
Campus campaigner: Inspire and equip your fellow students to take action for a fairer world, campaigning, fundraising and educating. Promoting Christian Aid’s current campaigning activity, (currently Climate Change, and Economic Justice); being a part of the Newcastle campaigns group; to participate in local and regional campaigning networks on behalf of Christian Aid.
Youth worker: To make contact with and run sessions for youth groups; based on Christian Aid resources; to promote Christian Aid resources to youth leaders; to encourage young people to take action to change the world! You will work closely with the Local Youth Advocate.
Both opportunities are very flexible and require a level of independence and self-motivation. You will be supported by the local team are receive training where appropriate.
Skills/training/benefits: Volunteers will gain valuable experience working with an International Development Agency; with the opportunity to develop new skills. All training events organised by Christian Aid are open to volunteers, and there is also the possibility of participating in on-line training provided centrally if it is relevant to the volunteering opportunity. Christian Aid is a major player in the International Development sector, and was the first large Volunteering organisation to receive Investing in Volunteers status.
