► Newcastle East End Community Co-op (KeyRing)

We are a Community Co-op based in the East End of Newcastle which is made up of people with learning disabilities and local people.  We provide support to people with learning disabilities who are 18 years or older, through both paid work support and a network of volunteers.  We aim to help people with learning disabilities to live the kind of life they want to live, by enabling them to live more independently in their own homes, and become an active member of their local community, and make friends.

Walker, Heaton, Byker and the east end of Newcastle although activities make take place elsewhere.

Our volunteer network is made up of people from the East End of Newcastle who spends 2-3 hours per week with a person with learning disabilities, sharing a leisure activity which both people have an interest in.  The volunteering involves befriending the person being supported and supporting them to make new friends.

Volunteer Roles:

1. Community Link volunteers (general) Volunteers from the East End required to spend 2-3 hours per week with people with learning disabilities (times and days to suit volunteer, member and activity), sharing a leisure activity in the community which both the co-op member and volunteer have an interest in.  Volunteering activities will be carried out in the community and depend on the activity being pursued, but will be leisure based.  Volunteers will support a person with learning disabilities to take part in the activity within their community and make new friends.

2. Community Link Volunteer (person specific, Heaton, various interests) A volunteer from the East End is required to help a person with learning disabilities from Heaton to get involved in leisure activities in the community and make new friends.  The volunteer would spend 2-3 hours per week with him sharing 1 or more of the following interest: Photography and computers, live folk music, swimming, rambling/walks, and/or going to Catholic Church.
