What is advocacy?
Advocacy happens when every time someone speaks on behalf of another person and every time someone supports another to speak out for themselves. Advocacy is not about telling someone what and not to do, it’s not about guessing what people are thinking nor is it counselling, therapy, mediation or advising. Independent Advocacy in North Tyneside provides a range of advocacy services to vulnerable adults in North Tyneside. This includes self advocacy and citizen/residential advocacy.

Being able to build up a relationship with advocacy partner and being able to speak on behalf of your advocacy partner at reviews, meetings etc. Due to the nature of the work involved please note that you may be required to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau Check prior to being matched with an advocacy partner.
Training is provided and initial and post training interviews will take place. A 9 week Open College accredited course that provides knowledge of advocacy and its participants is also available.
Volunteers will be likely to acquire skills in the following areas : confidence, self esteem, listening, communication skills, organisational skills & negotiation skills,
All volunteer expenses will be reimbursed by Independent Advocacy North Tyneside.
