Welcome to SCAN

SCAN stands for Student Community Action Newcastle and since the 1960's we've been based in the centre of Newcastle helping students and other young people access volunteering opportunities across the North East

SCAN today is a vibrant and lively young person led charity based at Newcastle University that aims to provide a wide variety of quality volunteering opportunities, through running our own community projects and by working with other charitable/community organisations.

SCAN currently offers over 200 volunteering opportunities in the community as well as running a successful programme of young person led projects, and one-off/taster volunteering opportunities.

How do I get involved?

If you'd like to get involved in a project or find out more about volunteering we'd love to hear from you!

Here's what you need to do next:

- Read the Volunteering section for information and an explanation of the benefits of volunteering

- Have a look at the huge range of projects we have on offer and see if anything takes your fancy.

- If you are an International Student please visit the International Students page for specific guidance.

- Please bear in mind that many projects require a CRB check.

Then either:

Come into the SCAN Office to find out more about specific projects or volunteering in general. If you can't come to the office during our usual office opening hours (Mon-Thurs 10-4pm and Fri 10-1pm) then please let us know and we can make an appointment with you.

or

Complete our online membership form putting down the names of the projects you are interested in and we will get you more information on them

or

Click on  and you can register your interest in a voluntary opportunity and enroll as a volunteer with SCAN on-line.

We also recommend that you register with  the national young volunteers service dedicated to helping young people volunteer in ways that matter to them.
