There are two types of accommodation on offer at Henderson, or ‘Hendo’ as it is affectionately known. Old Hall, a listed building, offers some of the best facilities across the entire University with ensuite bathrooms and large bedrooms. Unfortunately only a few spaces exist in here and prices are relatively steep. The majority of Henderson dwellers are likely to live in the less salubrious surroundings of Smith, East and West wing. Here, bathrooms and kitchens are shared, but that’s all part of the fun of making new friends and meeting new people. The Hall also offers a mix of catered and self-catered accomodation. The local amenities are relatively good with Sainsbury’s just down the road, along with a number of newsagents and pubs. Although located three miles from Uni, buses are frequent and nexus travel do offer a student discount. The best buses to use are the 306 and the 308 which take you directly from Henderson (Benwell Road) to the cente of town/ the Uni campus (St Marys Place). Henderson has a very social atmosphere where everyone knows everyone else, and the contrast between the two types of hall also ensures a genuinely good mix of personalities. Also, with its excellent location to Cochrane Park, it is ideal for all of you sporty people, and those who like a nice view!
