Newcastle is home to some quality music venues ranging from the impressive Metro Radio Arena to smaller venues such as our very own students' Union. Music festivals in and around the city range from the urban music of the Orange Evolution Festival to the Tyneside Irish Festival.

This large indoor venue has a capacity of over 10,000. It hosts performances from from many popular artists such as, Kasabian, Snow Patrol, Scissor Sisters, The Killers, Faithless, Razorlight and Bob Dylan. It is also home to the basketball team the Newcastle Eagles and the Ice Hockey team, The Vipers, and has had performances such as High School Musical on Ice!

Has an eclectic mix of classical music and pop - acts include Lemar, Simon Webbe, Jools Holland, and Ray Lamontagne.

Down by the Quayside, the modern Sage building (slightly like a giant slug) cannot be missed. It is a futuristic music centre providing a home for Folkworks and the Northern Sinfonia, together with practice and workshop rooms. It also features a wide-ranging mix of live music events - everything from classical artists such as Russell Watson, to more contemporary artists like Badly Drawn Boy and Ron Sexsmith. There's also a wide range of world musics and even folk legend Donovan.

Your Students Union hosts many live music gigs, up and coming events can be found here.With a massive entertainments programme that runs throughout the year, bringing the very best in bands, DJs, dance nights and comedy to Newcastle. As one of the cities top live band venues, we played host to dozens of top bands last year and that's not going to change this time around! We also host an eclectic array of dance nights on Saturday, and have a brand new night coming just for you every Friday!

This venue is down by central station and has housed acts such as Mark Ronson, The Wombats and Pendulum. The Carling also holds its own club nights over the weekend thats are worth a visit.
In and around Newcastle-Gateshead you'll be able to find world music, arts, classical, folk, jazz, pop, and rock. Local, national and international musicians all play a part.
Make sure you take a visit to the Jazz Cafe. You will all soon become introduced to the infamous, grey bearded Jazz-Man, who will greet you everyday at the steps of the Union with his flyers. If your looking for a chilled night out with live jazz bands this is a great place to visit.
