Heaton is one of the most up-and-coming areas in Newcastle; in the last ten years it has transformed itself from your average inner-city suburb to a bustling hub of students and professionals with Chillingham Road at it's core. Heaton is a good place for those not willing to shell out for overpriced Quayside properties but who are still a little suspicious of Fenham's very cheap housing.
Often pinpointed as the prime cause of obesity in the Heaton area; Chillingham Road has takeaways for every occasion as well as every other local amenity you could require whilst living there including a supermarket, launderette and also a 24-hour video shop!
In terms of pubs Heaton cannot match Jesmond for sheer numbers, however it makes up for this in offering excellent quality that caters for both traditional pub lovers and fans of cool independent bars alike. Heaton has some hidden charms such as the olde worlde sweet shop and the amazing Belle and Herb cafe. it is also extremely close to morrisons and somerfield.
Overall Heaton is a very friendly little suburb with excellent facilities and, although it is a bit further out than some areas, offers excellent value for money and a good variety of neighbours. So, hop on the No.1 bus to take you to campus for little more than a pound!
