Newcastle University and the Union Society are both accredited Fairtrade sites. The Union Shop stocks a number of Fairtrade products such as confectionary, snacks, tea and coffee, bags and clothing.

What is Fairtrade?

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices (which must never fall lower than the market price), Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.

Fairtrade Fortnight

The Union Shop is participating in Fairtrade Fortnight which runs from 22nd February to 7th March. To find out more about Fairtrade Fortnight and how you can get involved click here

If you require any specialist equipment or would like to see the shop stock an item not currently on sale, please contact the Retail Co-ordinator who will be happy to assist.
